PEC Visit: Reaccreditation of B.Sc. Electrical Engineering Program

Reaccreditation of session 2007, 2008 and 2009

  • Prepared and submitted the PEC AC-1 Performa for re-accreditation of session 2007, 2008 and 2009 in 2011. The visit was conducted visit on April 11-12, 2011. Sessions 2007 and 2008 got re-accreditation. Re-accreditation of Session 2009 was also recommended subject to confirmatory visit.

Framework for B.Sc. Engineering Project

Keeping in view the market and industrial requirements, a framework for B.Sc. Engineering Project was conceived, designed and implemented to improve the quality of the final year projects

Technical Society

Society of Innovative Electrical Engineering Professionals.

  • Conceived, designed its working framework and constituted vide Office Order No. 5 dated 30.01.2012.
  • The society is performing actively and making valuable contributions.

          6.

Establishment of “Academic & Student Services Cell (A&SSC)” Undergraduate Program

  • The idea of A&SSC was conceived and designed. It was established vide office order No. UET/EED/10/159 dated on 23.01.2010 and operated to steam line academic activities and for facilitation of students. This cell is led by cell director and his team with the necessary infrastructure and facilities.
  • All academic activities are controlled by chairman through this cell.
  • All academic activities and information are displayed on the Academic Cell Notice Board
  • Dropbox installed outside the cell for the convenience of students.
  • Cell equipped with computer, printer, scanner, photocopy machines, and UPS.

          7.

Establishment of Services Group (SVG)

Services Group was constituted from available staff in EED to carry out maintenance, repairing, electrification and all other relevant tasks. This group has performed, delivered and contributed for smooth functioning & performance of the department.

 

ACADEMICS --- UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

Curriculum Revision --- B.Sc. Electrical Engineering

  • After the PEC visit of 2011, the curriculum was revised in the light of PEC instructions. This curriculum was approved by the Syndicate on the recommendation of Academic council and notified vide Notification No. UET/A&R/G-2/814 dated 04-07-2012.

            9.

Upgradation & Restructuring of Laboratories

All Laboratories of the department upgraded in context of the following:

  • All Labs were relocated keeping in view their need, requirement and space.
  • New uniform look was created.
  • Upgraded in terms of equipment under HEC grant of Rs. 39.9 million.
  • New Lab furniture was arranged and repaired, redesigned old one.
  • Lab functioning framework was conceived, designed and implemented vide office order No. 08 dated 02-03-2010.
  • Lab manuals were redesigned and revised.

PEC Visit: Reaccreditation of B.Sc. Electrical Engineering Program

  • Prepared and submitted the PEC AC-1 re-accreditation form for the accreditation of session 2012, 2013 and 2014.
  • PEC visitation team conducted visit of Electrical Engineering Department on May 30-31, 2016.
  • The decision of the visit approved in 78th PEC EA&QEC meeting held on July 13, 2016 is reproduced below:

Re-accreditation of Intake Batch 2012 recommended, and Batch 2013 also recommended subject to fulfillment/ compliance report on weak areas.

  • The compliance report was submitted to Pakistan Engineering Council after addressing all weak areas in record time. In its 83rd meeting EA&QEC/EAB held on October 16,17, 2017, batch 2013 was also recommended.

           4.

Upgradation of “Academic & Student Services Cell (A&SSC)” for Postgraduate & Undergraduate Program.

  • The cell has been upgraded and shifted at new place and now have two wings dealing Undergraduate & Postgraduate program.
  • One window operation has been started with sitting place for students.
  • Notice Boards have been upgraded for both wings separately for all sort of academic information.

 

ACADEMICS --- UNDERGRADUATE PROGRAM

Adoption of OBE System

  • Arranged training sessions in the department for all faculty members, Lab Engineers, and staff on OBE System.
  • Attended along with senior faculty training sessions by foreign experts arranged in university.
  • Arranged comprehensive awareness seminars on OBE for students, session-wise.
  • Trained Academic Cell staff for OBE Environment and upgraded infrastructure and staff.
  • Established Departmental Quality Enhancement Cell (DQEC) for smooth functioning of activities in department and coordination with university QEC.
  • Software development team constituted to develop software for OBE system. In this context several milestones have been achieved.

           6.

Establishment of New Labs & Upgradation of Existing Laboratories

In record time following new labs have been established:

  1. High Voltage Engineering Lab with a cost of Rs. 19.8 million
  2. Power Electronics Lab from HEC grant
  3. Power System Simulation Lab with 50 new computers, furniture, wiring and furnishing with a cost of Rs. 5 million

Following new labs have been upgraded:

  1. Upgradation of Power Systems Lab with Transmission & Protection trainers with a cost of Rs. 24.3 million
  2. Computer Simulation Lab with 50 new computers and furniture with Rs. 5 million.
  3. Electrical Measurement & Instrument lab has been upgraded as Instrument & Process Control Lab under HEC grant of Rs. 26.8 million.
  4. Upgradation of Basic Computer Lab with 50 computers.
  5. Preparation of Lab books & upgradation of Lab manuals keeping in view the OBE system.

  • Upgradation of Department Entrance --- flooring, paneling and redesigning of main notice board.

  • Conversion of two lecture theater into four class room at ground floor of extension block and construction of four class room at first floor with a cost of Rs. 12 million

  • Submitted the case for Basic Pay Scales & Allowances for Employees of UET, Taxila to the Chancellor and followed. Lead University team in the meeting of the committee (Additional Chief Secretary, and four Provincial Secretaries) constituted by the Chancellor to thoroughly examine the case for Statutes of Pay & Allowances. In the light of the decision of the committee the revised document was submitted subsequently.
  • Submitted the case for provision of one-time Grant-in-Aid amounting to Rs. 91.435 million in respect of scheme titled “Purchase of Land for Expansion of Main Campus of UET, Taxila”. Represented university in HED in different meetings during follow up period. The said grant was approved vide letter No. SO(DEV-II) 51-04/2007 dated March 21, 2014.
  • Represented university in High court and lower courts in different cases.
  • Planned and arranged INDIGENOUS ON CAMPUS TRAINING PROGRAM UNDER MODERN UNIVERSITY GOVERENCE PROGRAM in collaboration with HEC on several important Admin, Finance, IT and other topics in 2014 & 2015 for capacity building of Officers and staff of the university.
  • Arranged and attended 13th convocation of university as registrar.
  • Attended meetings as member of Affiliation Committee inside and outside the university.

  4. Designed and implemented Societies functioning SOP.
  5. Coordinated, and managed the participation of students in all functions, activates directed by Presidency, Chancellor Office, CM Secretariat, HED, HEC, and other govt agencies.
  6. Managed the participation of students in functions and activities of national universities time to time.
  7. As member/ secretary of university Discipline Committee arranged series of meetings of Discipline Committee in various discipline cases during the tenure and ensured the implementation of the decisions of the committee.
  8. As DSA played very vital and positive role in maintaining discipline in the university.
  9. As Chief Organizer arranged DICE-CONNECT 2012, December 19-20, 2012, joint venture of HEC, British Council, and UET, Taxila. This was two days Mega Events with following activities:
  • Exhibition, Symposium and Competitions
  • Student Projects on: Engineering, Agricultural Sciences, Biological & Veterinary Sciences, and Business Education.
  • Industries to exhibit their products & technologies
  • Speaker sessions by industry leaders and academicians

The successful completion of this event was due to the hard work of Dice Secretariat

  1. Conceived, arranged and managed major events ANNUAL STUDENT WEEK 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016 & 2017. The students from other universities also participate in these events.
  2. Arranged and coordinated different activities throughout the years on the recommendation of Patron/advisors.
  3. Special facilitation for disabled students studying in the university.
  4. Managed and lead student teams in various duties in all convocations held in the university so far.
  5. Designed and established Card Generation System for Employees and students. It is working efficiently without interruption dealing the demand of six thousand plus people.

Community Services

  1. Earth Quake 2005: DSA as head of Disaster & Crisis Management Cell UET, Taxila lead comprehensive participation of Faculty, staff and students in Relief activities. The involvement includes:
  • Five Youth Teams lead by faculty participated in Reconstruction & Rehabilitation for Earth Quake Affectees with Pak Army.
  • Establishment of Relief Camp
  1. Arranged & managed annual Blood Donation camps regularly and arranged blood for needy patients in the hospitals of Islamabad/Rawalpindi/Taxila/Wah throughout the year.
  2. Active participation of student teams in Anti-Dengue campaign with other stake holders in the university.
  3. Lead and supervised UET, Teams in National Enrolment Drives in the Country in 2016 on the advice of HEC.
  4. Supervised student team’s participation in community services.
  5. Arranged and managed scholarships and maintenance allowance for students from various donors in business community and it was ensured that not even a single student of the university left his/her education due to financial issues.

  1. Hostel-Wise Open Kacharies (courts) with students were arranged along with Wardens and Resident tutors to listen student viewpoint and problems.
  2. Constituted Student Hostel Committees for all hostels for the involvement of students with a view to improve the services.
  3. Services group and Janitorial rosters revised.
  4. Steps taken to improve Hostel Mess cleanliness and quality of food without increasing the hostel mess charges from the students.
  5. Improvement in the outlook, land scaping and plantation around the hostel.
  6. Merit based hostel allotment as per capacity procedure proposed.
  7. For clean drinking water, high capacity water cooler estimates submitted and installed two such coolers in Hostel Mess on trial basis.
  8. Mess restructuring, maintenance and parking places estimates prepared and submitted.
  9. Auction of unserviceable items.

  • Contributed focal resource person on ‘Power System Planning and Analysis’ at Virtual University of Pakistan for the first ever distance learning training course for the SAARC professionals through two courses ‘SAARC Basic Technical Training Course on Power System Planning & Analysis through Distance Learning’ and ‘SAARC Advance Technical Training Course on Power System Planning & Analysis through Distance Learning’ launched by SAARC Energy Centre during the year 2015 and 2016
